Olympic Gold Quest (OGQ),promoted by Prakash Padukone and Geet Sethi to assist potential Olympic talent to achieve their dreams,is set to extend its support to two more boxers in the country. Suranjoy Singh, who was declared the best boxer in the Presidents Cup Inter-Continental event at Baku,Azerbaijan,in December and Commonwealth Youth Games medallist Nanao Singh, who was the first Indian boxer to win a gold medal at the AIBA world Youth Boxing Championship at Guadalajara in Mexico in 2008,will join three more pugilists Mary Kom,Sanjay Kolte and Usha Nagisetty who have already been picked up by the OGQ.
Both these boxers are supremely talented and they have already proven that they can be world-beaters, said Viren Rasqinha, the chief operating officer of OGQ who was present at the Andheri Sports Complex where these two boxers are taking part in the Super Cup Boxing inter-zonal national championship. They have a hunger to succeed.
Rasquinha ,who also held discussions with India coach Gurbaksh Singh Sandhu, said that once these two boxers were signed,OGQ will help them with their training needs. For example,if they need to travel abroad for some exposure events and have no funds,OGQ will take care of all their expenses against bills as we will try to be completely transparent in our dealings, he said. In consultation with the coach,we will see what more financial assistance they need above the support they receive from their federations.
