The Gonda police, that has re-opened the case of a minor girl's rape in Kernalganj area on June 30 last year, has now received the reports of the girl's medical examination showing that the girl became pregnant around the time when the rape allegedly took place.
The case had been re-opened after the girl's mother met Gonda Superintendent of Police Navneet Kumar Rana and informed him that her girl had got pregnant because of rape while the police had closed the case in December without going for a DNA test. After the police started further investigation in the case, the girl underwent the medical examination to ascertain the age of her foetus.
Kernalganj Station House Officer LR Diwakar said he had received a report from Gonda Mahila Chikitsalaya which showed that the foetus is about six-month-old and this shows that the girl became pregnant around June last year when she was allegedly raped.
Diwakar said the police now plans to conduct a DNA test on the accused person, Miraz alias Munna, who is a neighbour of the girl. However, Munna has gone to Saudi Arabia in August last year, he said.
No action has been taken against Sub-Inspector Ramhit, who had earlier filed the closure report in the case, without getting any medical or DNA test conducted. Ramhit had closed the case claiming that the case was filed because of "old enmity" between the families of the accused and the victim.
