The Sinhagad Road area witnessed 54.19 per cent voting for electing ten candidates in the panels 52, 53, 54, 55 and 56. The most of the panels fall in the newly-merged villages.
The polling will decide the fate of deputy mayor Prasanna Jagtap and sitting corporators Vikas Dangat Patil, Balasaheb Kapre, Shailesh Charvad, Shankar Pawar, Reena Pawar. The voting started at a good pace in the morning which continued till 1.30 pm. In the next one hour it reduced but picked up again in the last two hours till 5.30 pm.
There was a good turnout from slum area of Dandekar bridge, Parvati hills, Taljai hills, Jadhavnagar and also from the old village areas of Vadgaon Budhruk and Dhayari.
There were a few instances of scuffle among party activists with supporter of deputy mayor Prasanna Jagtap allegedly distributing cash to voters. However, the tension in the area eased with the intervention of police.
The proper planning for the polling and easily accessibility to the location helped citizens make it to the polling booth without any hassle. The polling was peaceful and the area also witnessed a good turnout of women as was noticed during the election campaign.
