Gorakhpur n-plant: Govt teams begin survey

The Haryana government on Monday began a thorough survey of the land, acquired for a Nuclear power plant, in the state's Fatehabad district. The survey, to be carried out in the villages of Gorakhpur, Kajalhedi and Badopal, will record the number of tubewells, taps, underground pipelines, trees, crop, fruit plants, orchards, dhanis and houses on the acquired land. It is scheduled to be completed by September 25.

The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) has already commenced its topographic and technical survey of the soil in the three villages. The state government will take possession of the land once both the surveys are completed and the reports of the survey teams are evaluated.

Fatehabad sub-divisional magistrate Baljit Singh visited the farmer's fields and commenced the survey. As many as five teams have been constituted for the purpose with personnel from the public works, agriculture, horticulture and revenue departments.

"The teams will conducting the survey on a daily basis and a detailed report will be submitted to the deputy commissioner, Fatehabad. On the final analysis and evaluation of the report, adequate compensation would be provided to the farmers. The district administration has urged the farmers to remain present in their respective fields and also assist the teams in their work by providing them relevant information, so as to avoid any discrepancy on evaluation," a state government spokesperson said.

" While most of the farmers have already accepted the compensation amount; the remaining are yet to follow. The NPCIL and state government have commenced their surveys, on the ground, and the farmers are fully cooperating. The land, for which the compensation is yet to be paid, is under litigation in district courts and the Punjab and Haryana High Court. In case the farmers, fail to solve their ongoing litigation, the government shall deposit their compensation amount in the state-treasury and the same shall be paid to the farmers, as and when their litigation ends," said Prahlad Singh Gilakhera, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Haryana, who is attached with the state industries minister.
