In the aftermath of the ruckus at Sidhu Hospital in Doraha a few days ago, Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Satpal Gosain has written a letter to Union Home Minister P Chidambram demanding the removal of Khanna SSP S S Mann.
While Gosain might have done so to safeguard his grandson Amit Gosain, against whom allegations of spearheading the mob that created ruckus at the hospital loom large, it may spell doom for the alliance partners. BJP leader Jagat Bhushan died last week after an unsuccessful weight-loss surgery.
Gosain's letter, which has sought the transfer of Khanna SSP Mann and action against the top policemen, may cause fissures in the strained relations between the ruling SAD-BJP alliance in the state. In his letter, Gosain said following the death of Bhushan on July 10, an FIR was registered under Section 304 (culpable homicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the doctors of the Sidhu Hospital.
Gosain alleged that Khanna police in connivance with the hospital management 'falsely' registered an FIR under Section 307 (attempt to murder) against the family and supporters of the deceased. Gosain alleged that the FIR had been registered in order to pressurise the family to reach a compromise with the hospital and neutralise the FIR registered against the 'erring' doctors.
It may be mentioned that on Sunday last, Dr Gurdeep Sidhu's brother Dr Ravinder Sidhu had alleged that Amit Gosain along with other BJP leaders had been instigating the crowd at the hospital. However, Amit Gosain had refuted these allegations and had said that he was trying to pacify the mob.
