JUHU, famous for the stars part of its electorate, is all set to cast its vote. With the film and television world talking about recession and terrorism, key national issues top the list of most voters here.
For noted choreographer Terence Lewis, who resides in Irla, this election is about children and education and diminishing the rural-urban divide. “I always vote and the issues this election I believe are alleviating the condition of street children and improving education,” says Lewis. Apart from basic education Lewis also wants unconventional efforts to be taken to help understand children. “There should be a move to teach students how to value education as opposed to moral and religious studies. Also colleges and schools should start using arts like singing and dancing to give students therapy.”
Moving from educatuion, he talks about the problem of immigrants in the city and the plight of villages. “We always complain about immigrants but I believe rather than sending them back the government needs to make village life better by giving them better opportunities. They should be provided better equipment for farming.” Well known TV personality Rajeshwari Sachdev says that it is governance and not issues on what she is basing her decision.
“My vote is not going to be on issues but on good governance. Issues change every year, recurring issues like water and unemployment always rear their head but good governance can only remove these. I have pretty much decided who I want to vote for.”
