Faced with strong resentment against steep price hike of essential commodities, the state government on Sunday said it will take tough steps to keep such commodities within the reach of the common people. “Tough steps will soon be taken against dishonest traders and middlemen involved in the supply of essential commodities in the local market. Nobody will be spared if found guilty,” state chief secretary Asok Mohan Chakrabarti said. A high-level meeting will be convened on Monday with senior officials of the Enforcement Branch and Food departments to plan a drive against hoarding of all essential commodities.
