Governor inaugurates housing complex for slumdwellers

  • As part of the Slum Rehabilitation Programme, Punjab Governor and UT Administrator General S F Rodrigues (Retd) inaugurated the Housing Complex comprising 320 small flats and 288 EWS flats under the General Housing Scheme at Sector 38 (West) on Saturday.

    The project envisages the construction of 25,728 flats for slum dwellers, said General Rodrigues, while adding that various hurdles posed by the slum mafia and its supporters were successfully overcome to put the project on fast track. Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) Chairman Mohanjeet Singh said that of the proposed construction for 25,728 small flats under the scheme, the CHB has already started construction on 11,168 flats in Sector 38 (W), Sector 49, Ramdarbar and Dhanas. The construction of 1,696 small flats at Mauli Jagran and 3,648 at Maloya-II will also start soon, said the CHB chairman. UT Home Secretary Ram Niwas and Finance Secretary Sanjay Kumar were present on the occasion.
