  • In the wake of the Mumbai serial blasts, the Government has decided on a major technology upgrade in the areas of surveillance, counter-surveillance and security access control.

It’s learnt that budgets running into hundreds of crores for the import of equipment and latest software technology are being discussed at what are now almost daily meetings on the security scenario post-7/11 and heightened terror threats.

National Security Advisor M K Narayanan is learnt to be overseeing the technology upgrade programme. A group of officials will be dealing with vendors and suppliers.

With the “shopping list” ready, several companies from Israel and US, among other countries, have already been approached by the Government for urgent imports.
