With the first anniversary of the Mumbai terror attacks less than a week away, Government has issued an advisory to all television channels urging them to do balanced reporting while showing programmes on the incident, as trial related to it is still on.

"On the occasion of the first anniversary of the terror attacks in Mumbai on November 26, 2009, it is likely that special programmes, news items, talk shows and interviews would be telecast to highlight the incidents of last year. (As) the investigation and trial of the terror attacks in Mumbai are still in progress, it is therefore important to ensure a balanced and responsible coverage in any special programme likely to be telecast on the anniversary of the Mumbai attacks," the advisory, released by Ministry for Information and Broadcasting to all television channels, said.

The ministry said that the media has been asked to exercise restraint as "replays of disturbing visuals, showing scenes of blood and gore or images of dead or seriously wounded, may bring back dreaded memories of the tragic incident and may indirectly fulfil the basic design of the terrorists to spread fear and insecurity in the minds of people".

The ministry has urged channels to keep the contents of the advisory in mind "while telecasting programmes in connection with the anniversary of Mumbai terror attacks".

Following the 26/11 attacks, directives were issued to the media by the ministry on November 27, 2008 and December 3, 2008, regarding coverage of the terror strikes.

Television channels were asked to exercise caution while covering the incidents to avoid hampering rescue operations.

What action did the Govt. take for the past one yearBy: Linob | 22-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward What do you mean by balanced reporting. People in India know what exactly had happened on 26/11 because of full media coverage shown on Tvs.No one can forgot that incident in their life. But what did the govt. do with kasab . what interrogation is still going on? Terrosists like kasab should be dragged into public and pelted with stones by the public. These people shouldnt be treated as human beings and neither we should have any kindheartedness for such people. Its time to change our law and regulations.I feel that media should give a detailed report of the people who have suffered because of these attacks and keep the spirits in every Indian.
Vande MataramBy: ashish | 22-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward it is indeed heartening to see the govt gagging the press on such a sensitive issue. our brave men have fallen to the bullets of wanton killers and foiled their evil designs to a great extent. innocent lives have been lost in this carnage that has left the country bleeding and seething with anger at the perpetrators and their so-called 'handlers' in pakistan. we need the media to show us the 'dance of death' in its most gory and explicit form so that we may never forget what they did to us. our opinions and thought processes needs to change. we need to think as a whole and not parts...political parties serving their own ends are dividing this country by the day and we need to be cohesive to counter any external threat effectively. this is an opportunity we must not let go.
If only our ministries would occupy themselves with constructive work rather than issue useless advisories.By: Anil Kohli | 21-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Would some one tell I & B Ministry that the Hurt, Pain and Anger is still alive in the people of India. Repeat display, of images of those 3 days of 2008 are not needed by the people to remind them of the terror strike. Indians are still waiting for concrete action from the Government of India. We want to know what costs have been inflicted on the supporters of terror. This silence on part of Indians is not sign of having moved on, it is all pent up and building, sure enough it will become visible, waiting for that proverbial last straw.
