  • The average sugar recovery in Maharashtra stood at 11.62 per cent as against the national average of 10.55 per cent, 9.79 per cent for UP, 9.31 per cent for Tamil Nadu and 10.12 per cent for Andhra in the 2007-08 season.

With Maharashtra Assembly elections scheduled to be held later this year, the move can turn into a poll plank to woo voters in the sugarcane belt of the state.
