Govt mulling ITIs in every industrial area

The State government is considering a proposal to set up Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in every industrial area in Maharashtra to cater to the growing demand of skilled workforce by the industries,Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said on Friday.

“Several industries and corporate houses are investing in Maharashtra and the industrial sector is growing at a rapid pace in our state. These industries are creating huge employment opportunities for youth,especially those from rural areas and there is a need of skilled human resource. Setting up ITIs on the premises of industrial sectors would help in meeting the demand of industries in a more organised way,” he said.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the administrative building and hostel building of ITI Lonavala,around 65 km from here. Chavan also inaugurated the Skills Training Academy,set up by the government in partnership with the Taj Group on the ITI campus.

The CM also said the state government is making efforts to implement the Prime Minister’s National Skill Development Mission that aims at creating skilled workforce of 50 crore in the country,including five crore in Maharashtra,by 2022.
