New Delhi, October 3:: Giving a new impetus to education, the Government on Friday approved the establishment of 12 Central universities and a scheme for providing quality education in Madrassas.

A meeting of the Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, gave its nod for setting up 12 Central universities and conversion of four existing state universities, Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi said in New Delhi.

The new universities will be set up in Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

The Sagar University in Madhya Pradesh, Bilaspur University in Chhattisgarh, Garhwal University in Uttarakhand and Goa University would be upgraded as central universities.

Dasmunsi said that a bill would be introduced for this purpose in Parliament.

Through another politically significant decision, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) gave its approval for the Rs 325 crore scheme to provide quality education in Madrassas by introducing science, mathematics, social studies, language and English in their curriculum for classes I-XII.

most of the madrasas sprung up like mushrooms in india teach urdu and koran for yearsand also fire brand lectures were given to brainwash children over years leavingthe poor at merrcy of religious zealots. Stop this method and teach all modern subjectsand Govt must oversee its functions. Educated muslims brothers send their children toenglish and higher standard schools whereas the poorest lands here.Teaching all subjects for development of a soul and prepardness for future life is needed
Education in Madrassas by Gurmeet Singh on 2008-10-20 00:53:43.48404+05:30
Mayawati was the first leaterto recognise the necessity to impart modern education to Madrassas. Many students go to Madrarassas because learning of Urdu is discouraged in the Schools. Govt. should also look into this. Hostility towards any language is not in he benifit of any society. Things have changed in last 50 year and Urdu no more can. cause any harm to Hindi.
