The government has received at least 438 complaints of irregularities in the implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in the last 14 months till June,the Lok Sabha was told on Friday.
According to the data available,Uttar Pradesh tops the list with 147 complaints,followed by Madhya Pradesh (64) and Rajasthan (47),Pradeep Jain Aditya,Minister of Rural Development said in a reply to a question.
The other states from where the discrepancies have been reported include Bihar (43),Jharkhand (37),Chattisgarh (16),Haryana (13),Orissa (12),West Bengal (10) and Andhra Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh with eight cases each.
“The ministry has an independent monitoring mechanism through National Level Monitors (NLMs) which visit various districts to assess the implementation of the NREG Act,” the minister said.
In reply to another query,the minister said that the number of households which were provided 100 days of employment was 21,42,718 in 2006-07,36,01,926 in 2007-8 and 36,01,926 in the following year.
In the current year so far up to May,11,09,10 households have completed 100 days of employment.
Aditya also denied that there was any proposal to increase the number of days of guaranteed employment from the existing 100 days under the scheme.
