Expressing her anger over the division of power in the Capital,Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said there is a lot of interference from various quarters including the Lieutenant Governors office and the Union Urban Development Ministry.
For everything, even clogged drains, everyone points fingers at the government, she told reporters at a book release ceremony. Nobody questions the L-Gs office, the Union Urban Development Ministry or the Home Ministry. The common man thinks the government is not working, without realising that we have to work under constraints and constant interference.
The Delhi government has been raising the pitch for cutting down on the duplication of authority. She also took a dig at the Urban Development Ministry, claiming that it concentrates only on Delhi.
Replying to another question later in the day,Dikshit said in the Assembly that the government is working out a scheme through which the civic authorities like the DDA,the PWD,the DJB and others will not require permission from other agencies before starting any project. This will speed up development work. Several projects are delayed because one part of the government is constantly seeking permission from the other, she said.
On Friday,Congress legislator Veer Singh Dhingan moved a private members bill to divide the Municipal Corporation of Delhi into smaller bodies and to bring it under the Delhi government.
In reply to the bill,Finance Minister A K Walia said,The MCD is largely responsible for the unplanned growth in the Capital. It has also curtailed Delhis development. Were working to ensure that this division of power ends and the civic body is brought under the Delhi government.
