GPCB to hold environment public hearing of 2 Essar projects

  • The Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) has scheduled environmental public hearing (EPH) for capacity expansion of Vadinar Oil Terminal Ltd (VOTL) and Vadinar Power Company Ltd (VPCL), both belonging to the Essar group.EPH has been scheduled to be held on December 1 at Vadinar.

    VOTL is a marine terminal of Essar group which operates a refinery at Vadinar in Jamnagar district.

    "At present, VOTL's capacity is 10.5 million metric tonne per annum (MMTPA) which is proposed to be raised to 32 MMTPA," a senior official in the GPCB said. Another project for which EPH has been scheduled is Vadidar Power Company Ltd (VPCL), which also belongs to the Essar group and operates a multi-fuel captive co-generation power plant at Vadinar.

    “VPCL operates a 483 MW multi-fuel co-generation power plant for captive use. The company has proposed to raise the capacity to 780 MW,” the official said.

    According to officials, works related to capacity expansion of both the projects will start after issuance of environment clearance following the public hearing.
