Grand gateways to span three roads linking Amritsar

Three major roads connecting Amritsar will be beautified with imposing gateways on the edges of the holy city,within its limits.

The roads are GT Road from Jalandhar,the Airport road and the road from Wagah towards Amritsar. The gateways will be identical,and will span the entire width of the road. They have been designed by a three-member team of the Department of Architecture of Guru Nanak Dev University,Amritsar.

The design draws inspiration from the architecture of Harmandir Sahib. The gateways will be tubular steel structures,clad with a sheet of golden colour. Each gateway is likely to cost Rs 2 crore. The areas on both sides will be aesthetically landscaped,said sources.
