Greens go through the roof,consumers see red

Retail speak: As per Amit Kumar from Navjot Vegetable Store,“The prices are soaring because we are getting the veggies from the wholesale market at very high rates. The heavy rains have damaged tomatoes,tinda and tori. Along with the rains,the soaring prices of diesel in Punjab have added fuel to fire.”

Consumer claim: Sujata Goel,a homemaker,says,“I came to buy 1 kg tomatos but the price has touched Rs 60 a kg. So now I have bought only half a kg with a hope that tomorrow prices will get lower. Rising prices make a great difference in the quantity we consume.”

Another housewife,Jaya Singal,expresses great surprise over spinach saying,“Spinach has become so costly,even the poorest quality of spinach is touching the sky-high price.”

Sangeeta Garg,says,“A vegetable like tori which is very common does not even need special care,its vines grow here and there in the rural areas is getting so costly. Then what can we say about other veggies which are procured from other states.”

Lemon is the only item which can bring smiles on the faces of the consumers with its heavily reduced price.
