Security guard had caught him stealing computers two months ago, say cops

A 60-year-old security guard at a commercial building, Avenue Society, in Hadapsar was found murdered on Wednesday morning. A man whom the guard, Rupen Dada Kardak, caught red-handed stealing computers two months ago was arrested on Wednesday evening for the murder.

Pravin Salunke (29) who had got bail after he was handed over to police by Kardak in the theft case is a criminal on police record and has 10-12 cases of thefts, robberies and house break-ins against him, police said.

Assistant police inspector (API) Satish Chavan investigating the case said, "On October 2, Kardak caught Salunke stealing computers from Roshan Enterprises located in the building. Kardak had handed him over to police and registered a complaint against him. Salunke had been released on bail in the theft case."

On Tuesday around 9.30 pm Salunke allegedly reached the building with a girl. He was allegedly drunk and Kardak stopped him from going upstairs. At this, Salunke threatened to kill him to take revenge on him for handing him over to police for theft. He is believed to have returned to the building after midnight.

"Around 1.30 am Wednesday, Salunke went to the building and allegedly hit Kardak on the head with a sharp weapon. His body was found by the building supervisor around 8.15 am near the generator," said API Chavan.

The guard's son, Manoj Kardak (28), in his complaint to police stated that the supervisor informed him about his father's murder. He also told him that Salunke had threatened his father at night.

"Hearing him threaten my father loudly, people shut their shops in the building, but nobody informed police," Manoj said.
