Guj BJP hits out at UPA on revising affidavit on Ishrat

Hitting out at the Centre for its decision to revise its affidavit in the Ishrat Jehan encounter case,the Gujarat BJP said that the move reflected its vote bank politics.

Hitting out at the Centre for its decision to revise its affidavit in the Ishrat Jehan encounter case,the Gujarat BJP said on Wednesday that the move reflected its “vote bank politics”.

“It has become evident that the Congress-led UPA government continues to play politics of vote bank and fighting terrorism is secondary,” State BJP president Purushottam Rupala said.

In its earlier affidavit submitted to the Gujarat High Court,the centre had stated that Ishrat Jehan and three others,who were killed by the Ahmedabad police in June 2004,had links with Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba.

Rupala said the move also showed that the centre lacked consistency in its stand on terrorism.

“The earlier affidavit prepared by the home ministry was based on intelligence inputs. Now under whose pressure the ministry intends to revise its earlier affidavit?” he asked. Rupala said it was the central IB which had provided inputs to the state police about Ishrat and her accomplices and subsequently they were killed in an encounter by Ahmedabad police on June 15,2004.

Questioning the will power of the centre in fighting terrorism,Rupala termed the menace as the biggest challenge facing the country.

“The UPA government has lost credibility and has no will power to fight terrorism,” Rupala said advocating a zero tolerance policy on terrorism.
