Gujarat Congress today promised home ownership to middle-class housewives in the state with affordable cost, subsidised loan and reduced interest, if the party wins the next Assembly elections.
The state party leadership made an announcement on the proposed scheme of 'your own home' for housewives as the second point in their 12-point 'Gujarat People Development Vision-2012' and claimed that this will be the 'Rakshabandhan'
gift to 10 lakh 'sisters' of the state.
The announcement was made in a press conference which was jointly addressed by Gujarat Congress President Arjun Modhwadia, Leader of Opposition in State Assembly Shaktisinh Gohil and President of Gujarat State Congress campaign committee Shankersinh Vaghela.
"The BJP government during the past 17 years has availed natural resources like land and water only to selected few industrial houses and for the middle class owning a home has remained a dream only," said Modhwadia.
"After consultations with experts in finance and land we have concluded that if we have the political will and concerns for the middle class at our heart, affordable house to every housewife is possible," he added.
"This is not just a scheme for the electoral purposes, this is our commitment towards the empowerment of women in the state who is dreaming for her own home for long and this government has made it impossible for them," said Vaghela.
"If our party will come to power, within the first year we will give possession to three lakh women and our target is to build total 10 lakhs houses only for housewives, whether she is mother, divorcee or destitute, ownership will be given only to them so that her future remains secured," said Gohil terming this scheme as a 'Rakshabandhan' gift to scores of women in the state.
Congress will start distributing forms from August 2, when the whole nation will be celebrating 'Rakshabandhan'. Through this scheme they have promised ownership of houses in three categories of lower and middle income groups. Congress has also promised to give 50 per cent subsidy in the cost, availability of easy loan and reduction in the interest on it.
