The Gujarat Police has sought more time to file its reply on a petition — filed by an accused arrested for his alleged involvement in the serial blasts here — against a magistrate’s order granting their custody to them for probe into the terror attacks in Gujarat.
In their petition, accused Shakeel and others alleged that the Delhi Police had earlier been obtaining their remand illegally.
They alleged that neither the Delhi Police nor the Gujarat Police have informed them about the basis on which their transit remand was taken on October 27.
Their counsel submitted before the court that the city police here have filed five different cases against them and illegally obtained 15 days’ separate remand for interrogation in each of the FIR, which is against the fundamental rights of a person.
All the suspects – Mohammed Saif, Zeeshan Ahmad, Mohammed Shakeel, Zia-ur-Rehman and Saquib Nissar – were handed over to the Gujarat Police after it moved an application before a Metropolitan Magistrate seeking their transit remand for taking them to Ahmedabad for probing their role in the July 26 blasts which claimed 56 lives.
The Magistrate, while granting the remand, had rejected their plea opposing it and seeking details on material against them.
At least 27 people have already been arrested by the Gujarat Police in connection with such cases and the names of these suspects have surfaced during the probe.
