With the announcement of the introduction of grading pattern for Class X students in CBSE schools from the current academic year, the schools have planned to introduce the system in Class IX from this month. As per a recent notification by the CBSE Board, all students of standard IX will be subjected to grading system based on Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) from October onwards. It will be a bit difficult for the current batch of Class X students to suddenly shift their mental gears from numerical marking to grading pattern of assessment, but the students are being counselled that nothing much has changed in the examination pattern per se, said Priyadarshani Kelka, the principal of New Era School. She added,And now that the new system is there to stay,we have also been informed to immediately implement the nine-point grading system for the current batch of Class IX. The governments announcement about the grading system in the middle of the term had come as a surprise to the students of Class X leaving them with limited time to adjust to the sudden change. The new system will also bring about a complete change in the internal assessment pattern. It is also a shift from the pen-paper examination. The students will be assessed through group discussions, quizzes and oral tests. They will be tested and assessed on articulation, creativity and analytical skills throughout their academics, said Bijoya Bakshi, the principal of Navrachna school. The zonal divisions of CBSE will start region-wise training programmes for teachers and principals to orient them for new pattern of the assessment. Most CBSE schools follow grading pattern till Class VIII so it is not completely new for the students. But the intense assessment will be new for the students and well as the teachers, said Bakshi.'
