  • While the Gujarat Police believe that the Indian Mujahideen, which claimed responsibilities for the recent blasts in e-mails sent to media houses, is “nothing but a faction of the outlawed Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI)”, the Delhi Police are of the opinion that they are two separate entities with different ideologies.

The two police departments also differ on who was the mastermind behind the blasts. The Delhi Police say it was Atif, whom they killed in an encounter last week, the Gujarat Police say the Ahmedabad blasts were mastermined by Mufti Abu Bashir Kasmi, who is in their custody at present, and Mumbai-based Abdul Subhan Qureshi alias Tauqeer. The Gujarat Police also claim that it was based on their intelligence and a list of some “suspected” cellphone numbers they passed on to central agencies, that the Delhi Police carried out the Jamia Nagar encounter.
