Gujarat has failed to submit the state action plan on climate change to the Centre despite being granted two quarterly extensions. The revelation came during a media discussion with Srikanta Panigrahi,Advisor to the Prime Minister on National Strategic Knowledge and Missions on Climate Change. Panigrahi was in the city for a seminar on investment opportunities in urban infrastructure in Gujarat under the aegis of Confederation of Indian Industry and six municipal corporations here on Saturday. But he said Gujarat is not the only state miss the deadline; only six states Delhi,Himachal Pradesh,Uttarakhand,Karnataka,Chandigarh and Haryana have so far submitted the report. He said other states, including Gujarat, have missed two subsequent deadlines of December 31,2009 and March 31 this year. He said the PM had urged all states to submit their plans detailing on how they were going to tackle this sensitive issue in all the sectors. Gujarat,I am glad, has set up a special department on climate change and they shall be submitting the action plan soon, he said, adding, the state is in an advanced stage of submitting the plan.
