  • Faced with questions from the Delhi High Court on its prosecution of political analyst Ashis Nandy, the Gujarat Government has said the journalist has shown the state in bad light. Requesting the court to not interfere in the criminal proceedings, the state Government has refused to transfer Nandy’s FIR to Delhi.

The state was responding to a petition by Nandy to quash proceedings against him in Ahmedabad for his article published in December last year. “It is submitted that the FIR in this case prima facie discloses the offence under the CrPC and the court should not interfere and allow the investigation to be completed,” the state Government submitted. The Government was responding to the notice issued to it on June 25 on Nandy’s plea.

An FIR was filed in Ahmedabad by NGO National Council for Civil Liberties, alleging that the article written after the last Assembly elections projected the state in bad light and promoted communal disharmony.
