Gunners FC were beaten thanks to three accurate set pieces taken by Kirkeeans in the Guru Teg Bahadur football tournament organised by the Guru Teg Bahadur Sports Federation held at the CAFVD football ground on Wednesday.
Gunners FC started the game well and strung a few good passes together. They had the better of the opening exchanges and opened the scoring in the 16 th minute after winning a penalty for handball. Rohan Bhonsale then calmly slotted the ball into the left bottom corner and gave his team the lead. However, their happiness was short lived as Kirkeeans found their equalizer in the very next minute through Liana K. Liana curled his corner kick beautifully into the top corner of the goal, giving the keeper no chance. Gunners responded well and were putting pressure on the opposition goal. They were rewarded for this pressure in the 25 th minute when Samuel Angte put his team back in the lead. Angte received a good cross from his left-winger and beat the keeper with ease. Soon after, the referee blew his whistle and the half ended 2-1 in favour of the gunners.
Kirkeeans played some inspired football in the second half. They dominated possession of the ball and created chance after chance. In the 45 th minute they earned their second set piece, which turned out to be the equalizer. Central defender, David R, put in a delightful chip over the head of the short Gunners keeper and scored an important goal. Following this, Gunners launched a few attacks of their own but none that troubled the keeper. Kirkeeans were not satisfied with a draw and went on the attack again. In the last five minutes of the game they won another free kick in a good position. A very confident David R stepped up to the plate and delivered a much deserved winner after he powered his free kick into the net.
