Two days after a nine-year-old's nose was allegedly twisted by a physical instructor teacher after the child defeated the teacher in a game of chess, another student — this time of the DAV Senior Secondary High School on Khandsa Road — was beaten, allegedly by teachers till he fell unconscious and had to be hospitalised.
Police said a complaint has been lodged by the boy's family and they were investigating the matter. "There were no external injury marks on the boy. He has been discharged from hospital. We summoned school authorities on Sunday," said Investigation Officer Harnesh Kumar.
According to family members of the Class X student, the boy had questioned the teacher for beating him with a stick.
The boy's elder brother Lalit said: "The teacher hit my brother on the arm for creating a racket in class. When he questioned the teacher, he got infuriated and complained to the principal. The principal came and took my brother out of the class and both began beating my brother till he fell unconscious."
The boy was taken to a private hospital. "The school authorities did not inform us about the incident. After my brother regained consciousness, he told doctors to inform us and we were called," Lalit said.
Lalit said his brother sustained injuries on the eyes, hands and the legs.
The school principal was not available for comment. District Education Officer Manoj Kaushik told Newsline, "If such an episode has taken place it is very unfortunate and action will be taken against those found guilty. We will inquire into the episode on Monday."
