Gurgaon pub brawl: Residents block mall entry

Hundreds of villagers from Chakarpur staged a dharna and blocked the entry into Sahara Mall on the Delhi-Mehrauli road protesting against the recent beating of youth from the village by bouncers of a disco.

Hundreds of villagers from Chakarpur staged a dharna and blocked the entry into Sahara Mall on the Delhi-Mehrauli road protesting against the recent beating of youth from the village by bouncers of a disco.

The residents of Chakarpur blocked the entrance for hours, demanding the arrest of all those involved in the case and also the closure of six pubs which operate inside the mall. This comes after nine youths of the village got injured after they were roughed up by bouncers following an argument over entry into one of the pubs named Ignite a few days back.

Anil Rao,husband of a local councillor whose relative was also hurt during the incident said the pubs have become a “nuisance”,where illegal activities take place.

“The Sahara mall management, owing to pressure from the villagers, have cut the power, water and other essential services of six pubs. A notice was also issued from the mall managament to these pubs”,Station House Officer of Sector-29 Jagdish Prasad said.

Many councillors also took part in the dharna. The villagers stopped the protest after the local police officials told them that more arrests have been made in the case and more than ten bouncers involved in the fight have been identified.

The city mayor along with three other councillors and representatives of Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) had met the deputy commissioner of Excise and taxation department a few days back and urged him to seal all the six bars in the mall.

Three people (all pub bouncers) were arrested for the brawl which took place on July 30 night and sent to judicial custody. The police have suspended an Assistant Sub-inspector who was found to be lacking in duty when the incident took place.
