The nine serial blasts that claimed over 90 lives in Guwahati and three other towns of Assam on October 30 last year were the outcome of a conspiracy hatched over a four-month period by the outlawed National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), says the CBI charge sheet.
While the CBI has submitted its charge sheet in a record five months, as many as six of the accused persons have been arrested so far while13 are absconding. Those absconding include NDFB chairman Ranjan Daimary alias DR Nabla, who is believed to be in Bangladesh.
The CBI investigation, which began in the third week of December when the Assam government handed over the nine cases and the findings of the SIT to the premier agency, has also delineated the conspiracy which reportedly began with Ranjan Daimary dispatching one Nilim Daimary from Bangladesh to Assam with instructions to procure explosives in July last year. G Songswar, a senior NDFB cadre based at Udalguri in northern Assam was directed to assist in this.
But Nilim Daimary was soon arrested in Meghalaya, following which the NDFB chief set up a small unit of four cadres to complete the task of procuring the explosives. The team was also directed to procure three Maruti 800 cars for carrying out the blasts. While Ranjan Daimary remote-controlled the entire conspiracy from Bangladesh, he dispatched one Ajay Basumatary alias Aogai from Bangladesh to Guwahati to make the final supervision of the plan. Basumatary arrived in Guwahati on October 13, inspected the locations in the city and then at Barpeta, Bongaigaon and Kokrajhar, and then proceeded to a village called Jhoraguri in Kokrajhar district on October 19, during which a crack team was named to carry out the blasts.
