While students of two schools have tested positive for swine flu,the authorities are unwilling to close down for a few days. They feel since the flu has not spread much, quarantining those affected is the need of the hour. Six students of Bhavan Vidyalaya,Sector 27,and Delhi Public School,Sector 40 have tested positive for H1N1 virus. Though schools claim to be taking extra precautions, worried parents want the schools to be shut. The children are at a risk of catching infection. The schools should be closed to avoid spread of virus, said a parent. Children do not have strong immunity and schools are the most infection prone area. Suspending a few classes does not reduce risk, said another parent Sumant Garg. If not the entire school,at least the kindergarten section should be closed. Kids are more prone to catching the infection. It is the responsibility of the school to ensure students health, said Nalini, mother of a kindergarten student. DPS suspended class VI,VII and IX after a few students of these classes were tested positive. Talking to Newsline,Reema Dewan, principal of DPS said there was no possibility of closing the school. We have already suspended classes and quarantined the infected students. School will not be closed as per the guidelines of the health department. In case we receive a notification we will close the school with immediate effect, she said. Meanwhile,Bhavan Vidalaya has closed down and classes will resume from Monday.
