The Congress said Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi cannot get rid of charges of genocide and had it been any other country he would have been hanged.

“Modi cannot get rid of charges of genocide..He is guilty of genocide. In any other country, international court would have hanged him. It has not happened, he should be fortunate. There is too much democracy in our country,” Congress media department chief M Veerappa Moily said a day after the Nanavati Commission gave a clean chit to Modi government for its handling of post-Godhra riots.

He alleged the report of the Nanavati Commission did not take a holistic view as it was appointed by Modi, the terms of reference too was made by the Gujarat Chief Minister and even the judges appointed to assist Justice Nanavati were appointed by him (Modi).

“Justice Nanavati gave a bail to Modi,” said Moily, adding ‘the credibility of the report is there for all to see and judge’.

Attacking Modi, the Congress leader said there are 12 cases against the state government in the Supreme Court at various stages and he was described as Nero by the apex court. “Can Modi present the report to the Supreme Court and get acquittal?” said Moily.
