With the impasse over the Haldia Dock Complex (HDC) still continuing, Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) officials will convene a meeting on Wednesday with all its stakeholders.
The problem started after a difference of opinion cropped up between HDC officers and a Trinamool Congress-backed group of workers over keeping the cargo in the mechanised berths 2 and 8.
The Trinamool-backed union — led by MP Subhendu Adhikary — wants to keep cargo at the non-mechansied berth. However, HDC officials claim that ABG-LDA-led cargo handler Haldia Bulk Terminal Private Limited can handle more cargo at the mechansied berth, and can earn more revenue for the dock. KoPT Chairman Manish Jain said he hoped Wednesday's meeting will break the deadlock and a solution will emerge.
