Upset over frequent harassment by her husband for failing to give birth to a boy,a woman allegedly set her two minor daughters on fire and tried to kill another in Lakhimpur village in the Milak area of Rampur district on Tuesday. The family then quickly buried the bodies of the two girls.
Following information given to the police by the village pradhan,Vishnu,the police exhumed the bodies and arrested the woman.
SP of Rampur,Ramit Sharma,said Niranta (30) told the police that she had three daughters and her husband Parmanand Gangwar used to harass her regularly for not bearing a boy.
Niranta said that she had put two daughters Samiksha (4) and Shivangi (2) inside a box and burnt them after sprinkling kerosene. While she was taking her third child,the six-year-old daughter,to set on fire,her mother-in-law raised an alarm and the locals rushed to the house.
