The state Director General of Police,Chitranjan Singh,on Thursday said that Mukesh Harjani was needed to be arrested immediately as the gangster had plans of extortion from a high-profile person in Gujarat.
We had received specific information that he (Harjani) had plans of extortion from a key person from Swaminarayan Sampradaya based in Vadodara. He had been calling up the person,demanding
a huge amount. He even gave death threats, Singh said at a press conference.
He said they had been tracking Harjani for the last two months and tapping his phones.
He wanted to create further problems in Anand and Vadodara, said the DGP.
Singh said they had information that Harjani was planning abductions in the state,after which a team was formed under ADGP Ashish Bhatia.
The ADGP was joined by Crime Branch officers from Vadodara and Ahmedabad.
Following a tip-off that Harjani would pass from Punjab,the team went to that state. Based on the
information,Ahmedabad Crime Branch Inspector J M Yadav caught Harjani in Ropar district when he was travelling in a Tata Innova (RJ 27 TRC/0126162) along with his aide Ravindra Maan alias Vicky.
Singh said,From a small gangster in Vadodara,Harjani became the biggest extortionist in the state after forming his gang for shootouts and extortion. He had some sharp shooters in his gang.
While Harjani and Vicky were brought to the city on Wednesday,his three other aides,Devang Brahmbhatt,Samir and one Fighter,were brought on
Thursday.
