A case of abetment to suicide has been filed against Haryana Minister of State for Home Gopal Goyal Kanda after a former air-hostess with the now-defunct MDLR airlines owned by him was found dead today morning. In her suicide note,23-year-old Geetika Sharma accused Kanda, the Chairman and Managing Director of MDLR,of ruining her and hurting her family.

Police have also booked an MDLR manager,Aruna Chadha, also named by Sharma in the two-page note, for abetment to suicide.

Sharma had risen through the ranks of the company and become an executive director before she put in her resignation papers about a month ago. In her alleged note, she accused Kanda and Chadha of betraying her trust and cheating numerous people.

Around 9.20 am on Sunday, the police control room received a call from Sharmas uncle, saying they had found her hanging from the ceiling fan in her room. The Sharmas live in B block flats of Ashok Vihar Phase III. The relatives had broken into the room and contacted the police. While Sharma was rushed to hospital, she had been declared brought dead on arrival.

The police are awaiting a postmortem report. The charge of abetment to suicide under Section 306 is non-bailable. The police have seized Sharmas personal diary as well as her official papers.

Sharma had joined MDLR airlines as an airhostess in 2006. In 2009,she quit her job and left the country to work with Emirates Airlines. However, she only worked there for a few months and returned back to the country. In 2010,she again joined MDLR,this time as an executive director.

Sharmas parents Anuradha and Dinesh and her relatives alleged it was Kanda who had got her sacked from Emirates Airlines. It was the minister who sent a mail to the Emirates administration levelling false allegations about her character and alleged that she owed money to the airlines. My sister had to return back and work for Kanda. She always complained about work pressure and alleged that even when there was no official work, the two would mentally harass her by asking her to check one file or the other, said Gaurav,a cousin of the deceased.

Sharmas family members claimed Kanda had come to their Ashok Vihar residence along with his wife Saras around 10 days ago and requested her to join the company again. My sister asked them not to bother us, added Gaurav.

While Dinesh works in a printing press in north west Delhi,Sharmas mother Anuradha works in a Ministry of Finance office at Khan Market. Sharmas younger brother is pursuing a course in fashion designing from an institute in Mumbai.

The two-page suicide note,a copy of which is available with The Indian Express, says: …Two people responsible for my death are Aruna and Gopal Goyal Kanda. Both of them have broken my trust and misused me for their own benefits. They have ruined my life and have been trying to sabotage my family members… Aruna and Gopal Goyal are liars, cheaters and crooks.

While the note goes on to urge that the two be punished,it doesnt explain how the two had cheated Sharma. According to her profile on a social networking site,Chadha worked closely with Kanda at MDLR.

The suicide note is not very clear, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) P Karunakaran said. The FIR has been registered against only Gopal Kanda and Aruna Chadha. The allegation that is made is of mental harassment.

Sharmas neighbour Rajhans said her family had said she had been depressed for the past few weeks. On Saturday night,a little after midnight,  when her father saw her awake,he asked her to sleep and that was the last anyone saw of her, said Rajhans.

Neighbours also told The Indian Express that they often spotted Sharma driving to work in a BMW car. Her brother said the car had been provided by the company.
