Haryana on fast track to provide rooms for Games

  • In view of the meeting accommodation needs during next year’s Commonwealth Games, Sujit Banerjee, Secretary, Tourism, inaugurated the Country Inn and Sweets Boutique Hotel in Sector 29 late on Thursday evening.

    Banerjee said Haryana will provide around 8,793 rooms for Commonwealth Games, for which the state had allotted 101 sites for construction.

    In addition to 1,477 rooms in 28 existing private hotels, CLU (change of land use) for six other hotels have also been issued, which will provide another 758 rooms.

    Out of the 8,793 rooms, 6,632 are in the ‘definite’ category, 305 in the ‘likely’ category and 1,856 in the ‘doubtful’ category.

    Banerjee said a task force under his chairmanship has been regularly reviewing the progress in creating accommodation facilities in the NCR region of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. “Haryana is providing a major chunk of hotel accommodation for the Games,” added Banerjee.

    The Tourism Secretary said: “Out of the 6,632 rooms, 4,224 rooms have already been completed. Out of these, 3,814 rooms are already functional, while 410 rooms are likely to be functional soon. As for the remaining rooms, the progress is being closely monitored so that they are also completed at the earliest. Similarly, for the rooms under the ‘likely’ and ‘doubtful’ category, work is being monitored project-wise. The government is also extending help regarding sanction of loans and expediting the grant of licences etc.” As on date, Haryana State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) has allotted three sites for 417 rooms; the Department of Town and Country Planning has allotted 12 sites for 2,395 rooms; Urban Local Bodies department has also allotted 12 sites for 889 rooms. HUDA has allocated 25 sites for 2,369 rooms.
