In a move to make panchayat polls quick and transparent, elections for the post of sarpanch will be held through electronic voting machines (EVMs) in 13 districts of the state. The result of the polls will be declared the same day. Elections for local bodies and Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in Haryana are scheduled for next month,State Election Commissioner Dharamvir confirmed on Monday. The final dates will, however,be declared only after the publication of the electoral rolls,he added. Elections will be held in two phases in each district so that adequate security arrangements can be made. Polling booths in both the phases should be geographically contiguous so as to enable supervisors and other officers to conduct checking smoothly, Dharamvir said. Concerned that the rising temperatures might act as a deterrent for voters, the election chief has asked for proper arrangements of drinking water at the polling stations. The Commission will be stricter in following deadlines; there will be fixed hours to accept nomination papers, Dharamvir said. The state election chief also asked the respective deputy commissioners to upload the voters list on the official website. Referring to the elections of Municipal Corporation of Faridabad,Dharamvir said though the polls were to be held this month, they have been delayed as the process to verify a large number of voters in the municipal area is on.
