How does Haryana Police catch the most wanted criminals? They just chance upon them, sitting by the roadside and planning a sensational crime while talking loudly enough for the men in khaki to hear the details.
At least this is how they claim to have caught two most wanted criminals - both accused in more than a dozen cases of extortion, murders, dacoities and other heinous crimes - from Jind district.
The two criminals have been identified as Bittu and Deepak, both residents of Jind.
According to a statement released by the Jind police on Friday this evening, the officials claimed that "a team of Crime Branch officers of Jind district police were conducting a night patrolling near Nirjan village".
"During the patrolling, the officers spotted two persons sitting by the side of the road, who were heard discussing a conspiracy to commit a sensational crime. For being on the road at late in the night, the team in-charge Virender Singh questioned both the persons and during questioning found them to be most-wanted absconding criminals. After an intense questioning, the police found one .32 bore revolver and another 9mm pistol and four live cartridges from their possession," the release said.
The Jind district police officials further claimed that a few days ago Bittu had shot dead a Bhairo Khera village resident Mukesh and after a few days he had shot dead a builder, identified as Vijay, near DAV school, in Jind. The officials further claimed that Bittu and Deepak had also made extortion calls to two businessmen in Narnaund. While they had demanded Rs 10 lakh from one, the other was told to shell out Rs 5 lakh as extortion money, the police claimed. It further claimed that both Bittu and Deepak had "even snatched away a motorcycle at gunpoint in Urban Estate a few days ago".
