Haryana sets up soccer academy in Gurgaon

The Haryana government and the state football association has decided to set up a football academy in Gurgaon. The academy, which will start functioning from July, will provide training to 31 talented youngsters.

Anouncing this, Haryana Football Association president Deepinder Singh Hooda said the trainees will not only be given football training but also all facilities concerning diet, education, medical assistance and uniforms free of cost. "A second football academy will be set up at Rohtak, one of the four divisions identified to be developed as football nurseries in the statem" Hooda said.

Players upto the age of 20 years have been selected for training at the academy, which will be financially assisted by MDH group for three years — Rs 25 lakh for the first year, Rs 27 lakh the second and Rs 30 lakh for third year. Hooda also said that an MoU has been signed with a Dutch football club and FICCI to host a series of four football matches in Haryana.

The state government has also framed a new sports policy, called Employment Guarantee Policy, to develop infrastructure and ensure employment for meritorious sportspersons.
