Several Haryana Sikh leaders, who are demanding a separate body on the lines of the SGPC for community members in the state, were taken into preventive custody as they tried to march towards a gurdwara.

Jagdish Singh Jhinda, chief of the self-styled Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, and others were taken into custody while heading towards ‘Chhavin Patshahi Gurdwara’.

The Amritsar-based SGPC and some Haryana Sikh leaders are at loggerheads over the issue of a separate Sikh body for the state.

Later,Makkar accused the Congress government in Haryana of giving undue support to a handful of state Sikh leaders who want a separate body on the lines of the SGPC in the state.

He alleged the agitation by the self-styled HSGPC was part of a Congress conspiracy to divide the Sikh community in Haryana.
