In their last two matches, both at the Bansi Lal Stadium, Haryana lost the toss, were asked to bat, and collapsed to 55 and 66 all out. They lost both matches outright. But when Haryana skipper Amit Mishra won the toss against Baroda, at the same venue, he ignored history and chose to bat. At the end of Day One, Haryana were 221 for five in 97 overs, having gone at a run rate of 2.27. Their runs had come at an even more excruciating pace till the loss of Abhimanyu Khod for a 76-ball 11. At that point, Haryana's score was 96 for four in 60.3 overs. Following that, Rahul Dalal and all-rounder Sachin Rana injected some urgency into their innings with a fifth-wicket stand of 86 in 24 overs. Rana became seamer Murtuja Vahora's second victim after scoring 42, but Dalal (64, 117b, 5x4), playing his second first class match, saw out the day in the company of Sandeep Singh.
Brief scores: Haryana 221/5 in 97 overs (R Dewan 48, R Dalal 64*; M Vahora 2/46, U Patel 2/54) vs Baroda.
