Hating Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh on the social network site Orkut could land some youths in trouble. The cyber cell of Pune police has approached Google for the details of the person who has started the community “I hate Satyapal Singh” on Orkut.
According to the details posted on the website, the community “I hate Satyapal Singh” was started on September 8, 2008. The community has 13 members and its owner is a Pune girl. The issue came to light after the information about the community was recently put on a local news portal. Deputy Commissioner of Police (cyber cell) Rajendra Dahale said, “We have initiated an inquiry and have contacted Google in the US and asked for the IP address and other information to reach to the details of the person. The process will take a few days. We want to know the purpose behind starting such a community.”
When asked if any offence would be registered for starting or joining the community, Dahale said, “It will be decided once we get to know the purpose behind the community. So far we don’t have any information about the owner and members of the community. Once we get the details we will decide about the action to be taken.
Rohas Nagpal, a cyber law expert and president of Asian School of Cyber Laws said most hate communities cause defamation and thus starting such communities is a crime under Section 499 of Indian Penal Code.
Meanwhile, two members of the community have commented against the Pune police commissioner. The comments have been posted on October 9 and November 9, 2008. The police is probing to ascertain whether the comments are defamatory.
