HC breather for students of Kesar SAL Medical College
The imbroglio concerning the career of 229 students of Kesar SAL Medical College was solved on Wednesday with the Gujarat High Court ordering that the college will remain functional for the present batch of students.
The imbroglio concerning the career of 229 students of Kesar SAL Medical College was solved on Wednesday with the Gujarat High Court ordering that the college will remain functional for the present batch of students.
The functioning of the college will be monitored by a committee headed by former Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Gujarat,Ashok Bhatia. The order came after a consensus between the concerned parties in the matter.
The students had approached the court with a prayer to get them accommodated in other colleges after the Medical Council of India de-recognised the Kesar SAL Medical College owing to want of proper facilities.
Giving the order,a division bench comprising Chief Justice K S Radhakrishnan and Justice Akil Kureshi observed: Under the circumstances,we feel it would be appropriate if a committee is constituted,so that the college can function effectively so as to provide proper facilities and assistance to the students pursuing their studies in Kesar SAL Medical College.
The committee formed by the HC consists of Dr Bharat Shah Dean,Government Medical College,Ahmedabad; Joint Secretary,Health & Family Welfare Department,Government of Gujarat; a representative of Gujarat University authorised by the vice-chancellor,dean of Kesar SAL Medical College; and a representative of the trust running the college.
Also,while pronouncing the order,the court made it clear that it is the responsibility of the state government to see that proper facilities are provided to the students for their continuous studies at the college in question
Counsel of the petitioner students Tejas Barot said,Students are happy with the outcome. Meanwhile,the petition has been kept pending in case there is any difficultly to the students at the college.
