  • The cease-work by the Bar Association of the Calcutta High Court will continue till tomorrow, said Amjad Ali, president of the association.

Today the association had called a general body meeting to review the ongoing cease-work, which started from November 3. The association had called a cease-work till November 10, demanding appointment of judges to fill up the vacant posts.

During the cease-work, Chief Justice S S Nijjar had discussed the issue with Ali and the general secretary of the association on Wednesday and Friday. The Chief Justice had assured the Bar Association that he would initiate the process of appointment of judges from Monday.

Today Ali informed the Bar members about the assurance given by the Chief Justice. Some members, however, questioned the validity of such an assurance — without any evidence. A section of the Bar members, on the other hand, had opposed the cease-work from the beginning saying that the association had called the cease-work without maintaining the procedures of the Bar — without informing all the Bar members.
