The Delhi High Court dismissed a petition challenging extension given by the government to Prasar Bharati Chief Executive Officer B S Lalli.

A Bench headed by Chief Justice A P Shah pronounced the order on the petition filed by an NGO, Centre for Public Interest Litigation. The court had on October 27 reserved its verdict.

During the hearing, the government had defended the extension, saying law was amended to increase the upper age limit for the post from 62 to 65 years.

The NGO had argued that Lalli, who was appointed in 2006, was due to retire in April this year after attaining 62 years but his tenure was extended after the government applied the amendment with retrospective effect, a contention rejected by the Government.
