  • The Allahabad High Court today dismissed a PIL filed by Shiv Kant Tripathi requesting the court to monitor the case he had filed with the Kanpur police against SP general secretary Amar Singh, his wife Pankaja Kumari Singh and actor Amitabh Bachchan for alleged financial fraud amounting to about Rs 500 crore.

While refusing to entertain the PIL, the High Court said it was too early for it to step into the matter. “The court did not see any reason to entertain the matter. The FIR was lodged on October 15 and you (the petitioner) have filed the writ on October 22. When the FIR was lodged and the police have started the investigation, why did you come to the court in a hurry?” Court of Justices Sunil Ambawani and Virendra Singh observed.

Tripathi’s counsel B D Madhyan said the court rejected the PIL since it saw no immediate reason to hear it.

In his PIL, Triptahi had made the state’s home secretary, Kanpur SP and station house officer at Babupurwa parties in the PIL, alleging the state government and the police had been not taking any action in the matter.

The petitioner also alleged he was getting regular threats to withdraw the case against Amar Singh and others. The court asked him to go to the police first and then come to the court if his complaint was not entertained by the police.
