The Madras High Court today ordered notice to Reliance Big Picture on a suit seeking to restrain it from releasing Ajay Devgn-starrer “Singam” over violation of certain commitments when the movie was remade from Tamil.
Justice V Ramasubramanian ordered issue of notice returnable within a week. The film is scheduled for release on July 22.
Studio Green, represented by K E Gnanavel Rajaproduced “Singam” in Tamil, directed by Hari and with Surya in the lead. On seeing its potential,Reliance Big Picture approached Raja to take part in producing it in Hindi with certain terms after which a production agreement was executed at Chennai.
The Producer alleged that contrary to commitments Reliance Big Picture suppressed his presence in production of the film apart from usurping proceeds earned from sale and also tried to absolve entire income from “Singam” in Hindi.
Raja alleged that the respondents in order to block his move to stop the film’s release, unveiled the trailer an advertisements of the movie under the banner of Reliance Entertainment Presents.
He claimed that the film was produced by “Reliance Entertainment” under the banner Rohit Shetty’s Film. This was an attempt only to evade commitments in the agreement,he charged.
