As the state government is planning to release separatists' leaders on the eve of Eid, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Tuesday quashed the Public Safety Act imposed on Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani and ordered his release. Geelani was booked under the PSA on July 18, 2009 after the rape and murder case of two women in Shopian sparked massive protests across the Valley. Justice Hakim Imtiyaaz quashed the PSA on Geelani on the ground that the material related to the detention order was not supplied to the petitioner Geelani.
Meanwhile, the state government too has made up their mind to release the ailing hard-line Hurriyat leader. Sources said that if the situation remained calm, Geelani might be allowed by the Centre to travel to Pakistan to meet his ailing son Nayeem Geelani.
