Patna High Court rejected the bail petition of controversial RJD MP Mohammed Shahabuddin in a case pertaining to seizure of illegal weapons and foreign currencies from his Pratapur ancestral house in Siwan district but granted bail in another case. Justice Navin Sinha disallowed his plea for regular bail in the case relating to seizure of illegal foreign currencies and a telescopic rifle with night vision device besides bullet-proof jackets from his village during raids on April 24,2004. Senior counsel Kanhaiya Prasad Singh appeared on behalf of Shahabuddin, while standing counsel Swameshwar Dayal opposed the bail. Justice D D Jha granted him regular bail in another case in which he is accused of scuffling with jail officials last year. The MP is facing charges in 26 cases of serious offences besides the six others,in which he has already been convicted. Shahabuddin's wife Hina Shahab is in the fray from Siwan on an RJD ticket after the high court had earlier this month rejected his petition seeking stay on his conviction in the abduction and murder of a CPI-ML (Liberation) activist Chhote Lal Gupta,to contest elections from the constituency.
